In these tough economic times, we are all thinking of ways to tighten our belts, reduce our spending and make good use of our money. But there is no reason you have to give up eating out at a restaurant. Many area eateries has great dinner or happy hour specials.
Bengal Coast is one of those places. It is the newest restaurant by Mark Brezinski, one of the creators of Tin Star and Pei Wei. This time Mark blends the flavors of India, Thailand and Southern Asia in the restaurant located in Centrum Plaza on Oak Lawn Avenue.

I have never been a fan of Indian cuisine. Let me be honest, I hated Indian food. That is until I went to the Bengal Coast. My first visit was for a business lunch meeting with other Concierges. I stared at the menu trying to find something that would not taste like Indian food. After talking to Chef Neville, I learned why I didn’t like my previous attempts at Indian cuisine and he helped me find dishes on the menu that I would enjoy. WOW! I was pleasantly surprised. He suggested the Indonesian Beef Short Ribs. Out came a big steaming bowl of tender beef seasoned with garlic, ginger, lemon grass and other exotic spices, served over pad Thai noodles. YUM! The Spicy Thai Shrimp and the Chicken Malai are popular items on the menu. If you are in the mood to try something with more of an Indian flavor, try one of Chef Neville’s Signature Currys.
I ordered a sampler of their appetizers too. My personal favorites are Thai Crispy Pork Lettuce Boats. They are similar to lettuce wraps. You can choose from Goan Chicken, Yellow Fin Tuna or Vegetable. I am also like the Chicken Samosas which are these savory little pockets stuffed with chicken, asiago cheese and seasoned to perfection. Since then, I have been a regular at The Bengal Coast and have tried several things on the menu and each time I was very pleased. OK…so now I love Indian food.
The menu also includes an array of appetizers and small bites that are great for sharing and a wonderful idea for happy hour. Happy Hours are Monday thru Friday from 4:00-8:00 PM with great drinks special at $2, $3 and $4. On Thursday nights, from 4:00 -8:00 PM they have, Free Appetizers! That’s a deal you won’t want to miss!
Like Pei Wei, The Bengal Coast offers counter service for lunch, dinner and take-out service. The counter menu has 22 items, such as the Pakora Chicken Wrap and Malai Pork Vindaloo, all for $10 including tax and a soft drink. This is a great way to save money, while still enjoying a wonderful meal.
